What We Do
Helping each other makes the world a better place
We work with communities to enhance their future prosperity by increasing their ability to successfully manage their own livelihood options and improve their food security. Our activities also focus on empowering women so that they can generate their own income and become empowered in all aspects (social, economic, political), and ensure their participation in the development process
Pfumvudza – Regenerative Agriculture Training
One of our initiatives is Pfumvudza (pronounced foom-vood-za), a sustainable farming technique that helps empower local communities by training locals to implement conservation agriculture principles. Requiring only a hoe and hard work, the system emphasizes minimal soil disturbance, maximum soil coverage through mulching, crop rotation, and high management.
Utilizing just 1/8 of an acre, a pfumvudza plot can sustainably feed a family of 6 for a year with a total input cost of $50. Scaling up to two plots could yield a profit of up to $400. By empowering farmers with these practices, they can achieve self-sufficiency, escape poverty, and secure a better future for themselves and their families.
Light Up Communities
Decapolis Community Development Center is dedicated to addressing the energy disparity in rural Nigerian communities, where over 50% of the population lacks access to the national grid, leaving more than 90 million people without electricity. In these areas, over 76% of rural communities are without electricity altogether, relying on expensive and polluting generators for power. To combat this issue and promote sustainability, Decapolis is implementing renewable energy solutions, starting with solar power initiatives. Our inaugural project targets 29 communities in Kogi State, Nigeria, serving approximately 200-250 households each. By installing solar floodlights, we aim to enhance quality of life and bolster community security.
Upcoming Projects:
Computer Literacy and Information Technology Skills
Our Computer Literacy and Information Technology Skills program is designed with a focus on minimal start-up and materials costs, ensuring accessibility for all participants. Through this initiative, we aim to provide clear and immediate opportunities for empowerment. We believe in equipping students with tangible skills that enable them to contribute meaningfully to their communities. By paying students to provide services based on their acquired job skills, we foster self-reliance and sustainable income generation. This approach not only benefits individuals but also strengthens the local economy and promotes long-term prosperity.
